FUTURE HOPE CHARITY DAY 2023

At the Society’s biennial Charity Day in September 2023, over £35,000 was raised by members and supporters. These funds have already been used by Future Hope in Kolkata in the following ways: Unused space on a mezzanine floor was renovated and 3 new classrooms were built to provide education to 33 children with special needs, a larger number than before. Much of the refurbishment was done by dedicated staff in their own time and the rooms were painted by the children. With the help of a structural engineer, increasing existing space by the creation of 3 new classrooms on the roof terrace. Due to a lack of room, the school had previously been operating a 2 shift system for classes, meaning no school assembly and impacting many after school activities. This new space now allows the school to accommodate all 360 children into one educational shift giving more cohesiveness and the fostering of better school spirit and togetherness. Renovation of one of the school’s existing girls’ homes from a one floor flat to a 2 storied building. This has created a safe and suitable home for 16 of the youngest girls and the extra space will allow several more children needing a secure environment to be accommodated. Future Hope has asked that their grateful thanks for the support given be passed on to everyone. February 2024
